This area can change dramatically in a few kilometres, it is very important to choose the right location when buying a house or plot. For example, winter sunshine is one of the most critical considerations; a house that is very sunny & warm in July could become cold, damp & depressing in the winter. A house that seems nice & quiet when visited with an estate agent becomes remote & isolated when lived in for long periods.
Apart from self build, having a house built by a local French builder is probably the most profitable & cost effective way to obtain a house, as you get what you want & you know the price you are going to pay (the hardest part is finding the right plot at right price) We have experience in this area, getting planning permission is quite easy in France & we have professional contacts with local builders.
A lot of people are cash rich & time poor when visiting the area with the intention of buying property & consequently are in danger of making the wrong choice, don't become one of them. Remember, buy in haste, regret at leisure.
By being in the area for a long period you will be able visit the estate agents on a regular basis, & the first to see a bargain.
